Shanghai | China :: Blue Mountain Youth Hostel Review

Blue Mountain Youth Hostel

Blue Mountain had a great location, directly across the street from the Luban Road metro stop on line 4 in Shanghai. The importance of such close proximity to mass transit can only be known following looooong daily tramps across the city. Your feet can only bare so much of the daily brutality put forth by the concrete and gravel of Shanghai’s city floor.

We got stuck with the crappiest room in the entire facility, confirmed by a careful study of their well illustrated fire escape routes and map posted on the back of our room door. However, we did not complain, and having only 4 square feet of actual floor space, even less to open the door, we lounged on top of the bed most of the time.

The little kitchen/cafe that most China hostels seem to possess was really bouncing, and always bouncing whether morning or eve. They sell beer and seemingly edible food with mostly western twist. However, I inadvertently was afforded a peek in their kitchen and couldn’t bare the thought of a meal at the place after.

The staff here was excellent, friendly and always willing to help. The shared showers could be a little cramped and not so cleanly, so that is an improvement are for sure. Another gripe is that their internet, whether it was their wireless or connection itself was dismal. We suffered along frustrated refreshing page after page. Did I mention their location was great?
